On the Ram navami day of Samvat 2040 (April 10, 1984), Gurudev (Pandit Sriram Sharma, Acharya) went into complete seclusion. He stopped meeting people. The inspiring physical contact that the Sadhaks and Karyakarta (volunteers) were privileged to have with him till then was abruptly broken. All of us were completely benumbed by this unexpected decision. Till then he had been undertaking extensive tours in connection with the Pran — Pratishtha Samaroh (ceremony of consecration of idols) in Shakti peethas (temples of Mother Gayatri) established in different parts of India. Suddenly, this "seclusion" and silence! What will happen next? The Teacher, under whose direct guidance we had been doing "Sadhana" of The Advent of Divinity in Mankind" and "The Descent of Heaven on Earth" , till then, was denying at the heavenly joy of his physical proximity. How would we get his guidance? What would we do without his physical proximity? However this uncertainty did not last long, but for whatever time it was there it was really a terrifying experience. Our agony was deep because at that time he didnt disclose any reason for his withdrawal into complete solitude.

The time you spend in censuring others, better spend in your self-development. Guidelines For Aspiring Loksevi

Pujya Gurudev has written a great deal about the characteristics and habits of an ideal loksevi. Most of his writings on the subject have been published in the Akhand jyoti column "Apno Se Apni Baat." These articles are intended to help guide volunteers as Gurudev had intended.

हरीतिमा संवर्धन

पृथ्वी का जीवन प्राणियों और वनस्पतियों में विभक्त है । दोनों एक दूसरे के पूरक और पोषक हैं । पृथ्वी पर घास पात के रूप में छोटी वनस्पतियां और बड़े पौधों के रूप में झाड और वृक्ष बढ़ते हैं । प्राणियों को इन्हीं के सहारे जीवन धारण करने का अवसर मिलता है । पशु पक्षी मनुष्य सभी घास पात पर जीवित हैं । शाक भाजी फल पत्ते यह भी वनस्पति हैं । मनुष्य इन्हीं को खाकर जीवित रहते हैं । वनस्पतियों के अभाव में पशु पक्षी मनुष्य कोई भी जीवित नहीं रह सकता । 

समुद्र और तालाबों में भी कई प्रकार की हलके किस्म की घास पाई जाती है । प्राय: उसी पर जल जंतुओं का निर्वाह होता है । हिंस्र प्राणी मांस खाते पाए जाते हैं पर मांस भी आखिर वनस्पतियों का एक विशेष उत्पादन ही तो है । दूध की पृथक सत्ता नहीं । पशु घास खाते हैं और वह घास ही दूध बन जाती है ।

हरिजन उत्कर्ष के लिए बडे़ कदम उठें

भारतीय समाज को दुर्बल और कलंकित करने वाली कुप्रथाओं में ऊँच-नीच और छूत-छात का स्थान सबसे ऊँचा है । मनुष्य-मनुष्य एक समान हैं । ईश्वर ने उन्हें एक ही साँचे-ढाँचे में बनाया है । धर्म और जाति का विभागीकरण मनुष्यकृत है । कार्य-पद्धति की सुविधा के लिए कोई वर्ण, वर्ग बन सकते हैं उनके नाम संकेत भी अलग हो सकते हैं पर इसका अर्थ यह नहीं कि किसी को मानवोचित नागरिक अधिकारों से इसलिए वंचित किया जाय कि वह तथाकथित पिछड़ी हुई जाति में पैदा हुआ है । इसी प्रकार किसी को इस कारण भी अपने को ऊँचा समझने का अहंकार न करना चाहिए कि वह अमुक तथाकथित उच्च कुल में पैदा हुआ है । मनुष्यों की उत्कृष्टता-निकृष्टता उसके गुण, कर्म स्वभाव पर निर्भर रहती है वंश पर नहीं । यही उचित और यही विवेक संगत है । किन्तु दुर्भाग्य से हिन्दू समाज में ऐसी प्रथा चल पड़ी है कि अपने ही समाज धर्म एक वंश, देश और संस्कार के व्यक्तियों को नीच अछूत आदि कहकर उन्हें तिरस्कृत-बहिष्कृत जैसी स्थिति में पटक दिया गया है । 

आज के जनतान्त्रिक और मानवीय अधिकारों की मान्यता वाले युग में इस प्रकार की अन्याययुक्त मान्यताओं के लिए कोई स्थिति नहीं हो सकती कि गुण कर्म स्वभाव की दृष्टि से अपने ही जैसे लोगों को अछूत कहकर अलग-अलग कर दिया जाय । इससे हिन्दू समाज की पिछले दिनों अपार हानि हुई है यदि समय रहते इस मूढ़ता में सुधार न किया गया तो वह दिन दूर नहीं जब हिन्दू-जाति को अपने अस्तित्व से वर्चस्व से हाथ धोने के लिए तैयार रहना होगा । छूआछूत और ऊँच-नीच की इस अन्यायमूलक सामाजिक दुष्प्रवृत्ति को दूर किए बिना भारतीय राष्ट्र वांछित गति से प्रगति नहीं कर पायेगा । भारत की प्रगति का पथ-प्रशस्त करने के लिए अनेक शर्तो में एक शर्त यह भी है कि भारत की अछूत जाति का उद्धार किया जाये ।
